Arc protection device UDZ 00 UHL3.1 with polymer fiber-optic sensors is designed for the selective protection of cabinets low voltage distribution switchboard, single-end service assembled chamber, switchgear and control gear 0.4-35 kW in case of short circuits, accompanied by an open electric arc.

Functional and operational features

The device operates in a wide light range from ultraviolet to infrared radiation. The noise immunity of the device is ensured by galvanic isolation of discrete inputs, discrete outputs, power and the absence of any electronic components in the high-voltage switchgear compartments.

After appearing of a light flash from an electric arc and confirmation of excess current cut-out / under-voltage protection sensors a command is issued from the output keys to disconnect the power electric circuits. All initial parameters are programmed during manufacturing or independently from the remote control. The signal from UDZ devices can go directly to the power switch, passing the relay protection unit by.

Device provides:

  • continuous performance monitoring once per 1 min;
  • issuing commands to turn off the switches of two stages of power electrical circuits:
    • 1 stage - input switch or section switch;
    • 2 stage - feeder cell switch.
  • formation of 3 dual shutdown signals from output keys from 4 fiber-optic sensors. One of the signals is operating on vacuum circuit breakers, the other can be used in indication and automation circuits;
  • formation of a common discrete signal from the fourth pair of keys when any of the optical sensors is triggered, which can be used as «Auto-lock»;
  • formation of the “circuit-breaker fail protection” function (up to 300 ms) in case that the excess current cut out / under-voltage protection sensors signal does not disappear when the secondstage key is triggered, while after a specified time the first-stage key will work. To turn off the first and second stages, any key or several keys can be programmed;
  • indication on the LCD of the current state of the device (“OPERATION”, initial settings or emergency status). In a state of accident, active keys and numbers of the fiber-optic sensors registering the arc are displayed. By the number of fiber-optic sensors, you can determine the compartment and switchgear cell in which the electric arc occurred;
  • the presence of two discrete inputs excess current cut-out / under-voltage protection sensors 1, excess current cut-out / under-voltage protection sensors 2, as well as an additional input. An additional input allows you to summarize signals from any other arc protection sensors or organization of multi-level protection;
  • programming device during manufacturing according to customer’s instructions or by using the remote control on the control unit;
  • protection against false alarms when illuminating fiber-optic sensors with an incandescent lamp, fluorescent lamp or sunlight;
  • minimum costs in installation of the device without making changes to the design of the cells.

Device Features:

  1. Polymeric optical cables of fiber-optic sensors are much stronger than quartz optical cables used in such imported and domestic arc shields. The concept of "fragility" is missing. Partially pressed polymer cable is restored when load is removed. Device is delivered in 100% ready to use with a reliable metal termination of the tips;
  2. flexible logic operation;
  3. the ability to change operation feature and parameters without supplier’s support;
  4. the maximum switching current of the output relays when opening DC circuits can be increased up to 1.5 A;
  5. possibility of installing a arc protection unit in switchgear and testing while manufacturing;
  6. protection from one to three cells, depending on the amount fiber-optic sensors in the cell.
